The Barrie Foundation makes sure we're where people need us.
Our founders former preschool & learning academy, Elite City Kids Childcare was the first partnership with the Barrie Foundation. Parents and kids were generous enough to donate articles of clothing that were delivered during our charity event in the Kabala Village.
The Barrie Foundation began their journey in Sierra Leone. Founders, Aisha and Mariama Barrie, are the daughters of Theresa and Abdulai Barrie. Theresa went as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer to Sierra Leone in the 1970's. Theresa met and married Abdulai Barrie a native of Sierra Leone. They both gave back to the country by teaching math and science in the local village. The Barrie Foundation is rooted in this tradition of when you learn "teach" and when you get "give back".
"After my first long awaited visit to Kabala, Sierra Leone, I knew that I couldn't wait long for a trip back. After speaking with the local village principal, I found there was a great need for educational and school supplies. I also knew that donations of clothing and shoes would be greatly appreciated by the village. I vowed to go back within a year to keep the Barrie tradition of giving back alive."
recent program
Our recent visit to Sierra Leone, West Africa was successful. We were able to bring clothing, shoes and school supplies for several grade levels that previously had no writing materials.
" I'm so fortunate to be able to impact the lives of others, all while partnering with some of the most passionate and driven philanthropists on the globe."
